Konigstein Christmas Market and Castle!

I think I mentioned before that our favorite Christmas Markets tend to be the smaller town ones. They are just a lot easier (and more fun) for our family because they aren’t as crowded and the kids have more freedom. So as I started planning our Christmas Market excursions for the season I originally started with some big city ideas, but they gradually been turning into smaller town outings. On Saturday we went to a town about 20-30 minutes from where we live called Konigstein! It was a blast!

Walking along in part of the market. It was in a park-type area along walking paths. So pretty. Up on the hill is Burg Konigstein! More on that later!

Looking at all the warm, fuzzies. πŸ™‚

The girls enjoying the market! They walked SO much this day (vs a lot of markets where they have to ride the majority of the time due to crowds). They were SO worn out and slept so well that night.

Baby especially was loving all the freedom. πŸ™‚

We shared and tried lots of new and fun foods. First we had some Flammkuchen (kind of like pizza) and the next stop was this yummy wild boar bratwurst! It was super yummy! The girls devoured it!

The little girls riding on their ride for the day! They had matching vintage cars. πŸ™‚

And Bug had the hippie van. πŸ˜‰

And waffles, oh my! πŸ™‚ I also got to try Cherry Gluhwein for the first time. SO yummy!

Not a cuter waffle-eater in the world!

This smarty pants ordered her waffle in Deutsch! So proud of her!

And our last stop was kartoffel chips (potato chips) with garlic sauce! YUM! (Oh and you can kind of see the SUPER cute gluhwein mug. Might be my favorite. It is so pretty!)

So in the middle of the Christmas Market fun we made the trek up to Burg Konigstein! Our trek ended up turning into quite the hike because we totally missed the entrance for the castle. We ended up hiking around the entire perimeter of the castle beforeΒ finally finding the entrance. At least we got some extra exercise in, right? πŸ™‚ The girls were such troopers and I think they honestly really loved our little hike!

On our lovely hike. πŸ™‚ At least it was beautiful!

We thought this might be the entrance. After getting to the top we realized it wasn’t. Oops!

FINALLY. The entrance!

I thought this was really need. The picture on the left shows what Burg Konigstein looked like in all it’s glory. The left is a view of what the ruins look like today. This castle is honestly in my top three. It was a lot of fun!

The cutest castle-explorers ever!

This little one was seriously so excited to be running around and exploring a castle!

And nothing beat the views from the castle! It was snowing and white up higher on the hills in the distance! So pretty!

If you look closely you can see little, tiny Lauren at the top of the highest tower! Her sweet Daddy carried her all the way up!

Bug loves to explore, too!

Mr. and the girls. πŸ™‚ So fun!

  1. It is not only great that your girls are getting so see so many new things but that they are willing to try new foods – so many kids are so picky.
