After our time in Munich it was time to hit the road again. We saw so many things on our way home. As we were nearing home that day I told Mr, “I really can’t believe how much we fit in today!” It was crazy, but in the best sort of way! Our first stop of the day was Neuschwanstein Castle. We headed out of the house we were renting to get there around 9am right when it opened. From what I had read you basically need to get there early. Another tip I learned was to not really bother with touring the inside. From what I gathered it is mostly just a pretty on the outside sort of castle since no one ever lived there and it is a relatively new castle. We were able to tour Burg Eltz earlier in the week, too, so we weren’t feeling too deprived.
View of the German Alps as we headed into Schwangau, Germany where the castle is located.
Another gorgeous view!
Bavaria is simply beautiful.
Hohenschwangau Castle. We didn’t actually end up visiting this one, but I’ve heard this one is actually worth the tour since it is the older castle and where the family actually lived.
Our first glimpse of Neuschwanstein on the drive in.
Magical. This is Neuschwanstein Castle. Walt Disney modeled Sleeping Beauty’s castle off of this one.
I don’t think that they come any prettier!
Us with Neuschwanstein. Don’t mind Lily. She is telling everyone she loves them in ‘Spider Man Language.’
One more. I just can’t get enough of this view. It never gets old. If it weren’t for the bridge being so crowded I would’ve stayed here all day!
The views of the countryside were almost as good as the castle!
Andy decided that someday we’re moving out here. 😉
Up close and personal with the castle.
The entrance with Princess Abby!
Dad and Bug enjoying the views!
Inside the main courtyard of the castle.
Our big 5 year old!
The girls with Grammy and Papa!
For reals. Is she not the cutest thing ever?? (And yes, that is a snow white tattoo on her arm. Its not permanent. Or so I hope.)
I think it is safe to say that these are the two princesses of the family! 😉
My sister has princesses poses down pat. This is Bug’s version of a Princess pose. I think it is a good thing she is more of an animal than princess fan! 😉
Mr., Bug, and Princess up at the Castle!
It was seriously such a fun morning! Who needs Disney Land when you can spend your days exploring real, live castles! So much fun! If you’d like to see more from our time at Neuschwanstein you can view the entire album HERE!
